Small Animal Surgery Internship | Starting June/July 2024

About the role
Our 12-18-month surgery internship program allows you to work closely with our experienced surgical team, which has extensive exposure to and training in all areas of small animal surgery. The learning program includes structured didactic teaching, hands-on surgical experience, participation in case reviews, weekly journal club and case rounds. This is a full-time position.

About you
We are looking for passionate, dedicated, and enthusiastic vets who thirst to learn. To be considered for this position, you will have current registration with the Veterinary Practitioners Board of Victoria and a strong interest in surgery with a desire to advance clinical skills.

You will gain clinical experience in monitoring a wide range of complex medical cases, managing oncology patients and administering chemotherapy, and basic training in advanced medical procedures such as abdominal ultrasound and endoscopy. This is a full-time position.

New Graduate Vet Development Program 2025

We are looking for new or recent graduates to join our New Graduate Development Program in early 2025. We provide a mentored and fully supported experience to build your foundation in veterinary practice while you rotate through general practice, emergency consulting shifts, critical care, internal medicine, and surgery – giving you a unique opportunity to experience both private general and referral practice in your formative year.

About the role

  • Our 12-month New Graduate Development Program provides a balanced roster rotating through general practice, emergency consulting shifts, internal medicine and surgery. The shifts will include a mix of days, evenings, weekends and occasional public holidays.
  • You will have primary case responsibility under close supervision while on the general practice and emergency rotations.
  • You will be observing and assisting with consults, workups, and procedures while on surgery and internal medicine rotations.
  • Learning within the programme includes didactic teaching, case reviews, participation in weekly journal club and case rounds.
  • A “mentor buddy” for the duration of the programme with regular feedback.
  • An opportunity within the programme to pursue an externship in your area of interest.

This role is the perfect opportunity for a qualified nurse wanting to transition from general practice to referral nursing. Let us teach you. Throughout your development, we will provide you with on-the-job training and extensive support in the form of a personalised induction and a structured training program based on your current level of competency. Your shifts will be scheduled alongside one of our senior referral nurses who have advanced skills in the surgical environment, offering you a safe and supported clinical setting that maximises your growth and learning. Shifts are all during the day. No after-hours shifts are required for this role. You have the option of joining us either on a permanent full-time or part-time basis.

About you

We are looking for a passionate, resilient, and highly motivated nurse who is eager to advance their clinical skills and experience. To be considered for this position, you must have a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing and a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a GP clinic.
